Is my body acidic or alkaline? That’s what I’m about to find out.

I’ll be completely honest, I’ve been wanting to try a greens powder for a long time, and have just never really sat down and figured out which one to try. Thanks to Goodness Me! and Genuine Health, I’ve been given the perfect opportunity! They have invited me to take part in a 21 Day greens+ Challenge.

21 Day greens+ Challenge

Over the next 21 days, I’ll be introducing greens+ into my diet. This is the first time I’ve ever tried a greens powder, so I’ll be documenting my experience, the effects it has on my body, its taste, and how to best incorporate it with your foods.

I’ve been provided with a container of Genuine Health’s greens+ Mixed Berry as well as pH paper. Every morning, at approximately the same time, I’ll be using a strip of pH paper to take a urine sample to determine my urinary pH level. Then during breakfast or at another point in my day, I’ll be incorporating greens+ into my diet.

What I should notice is that my urinary pH level should rise within 21 days therefore creating a more alkaline system. In addition to that, I should also notice a rise in energy and a perhaps a more general sense of improved well-being.

But let’s back it up a bit, and first understand what your pH really means, and what greens+ consists of.

What is pH?

Your pH (which stands for “potential of hydrogen”) represents the balance of the positively charged (acid-forming) ions to the negatively charged (alkaline-forming) ions in your body. pH is represented on a scale between 5.5 and 8.0. The lower your pH, the more acidic you are, and conversely, the higher your pH, the more alkaline your body is. Various systems of our body have specific pH levels that are kept tightly regulated. When the diet is too acidic, the body works to offset the acid load in order to keep these pH levels stable – potentially at the cost of your overall health!

Studies have shown (example 1 and example 2) that pH can directly impact your overall health, including your energy, digestion and skin, as well as your risk for diseases. For optimum health, our urine and saliva pH should be slightly alkaline; however the majority of North Americans are overly acidic due mostly to their diets.

This is where greens+ is proven to help. Based on the Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) of foods, researchers have established a way to measure the ability of foods to increase or decrease the acid-base balance in the body – the more negative the score, the more alkaline the food. In a clinical study – greens+ was indicated to have a negative PRAL that is double that of raisins and spinach – the most alkaline foods! Further research examined urinary alkalinity after supplementation of greens+ for 14 days, which resulted in a two-fold difference overall in the alkalinity of the urine, confirming without doubt that greens+ is making a difference in improving human alkalinity.

  • Hey Katie I have been using this for years – usually 1 teaspoon every morning before you eat anything. I find it really works for me, increased energy etc. As far as taste goes, the mixed fruit is probably the best.I use the same brand you are trialing.
