Nike+ Run Club Toronto & Nike Women’s 15K

Nike+ Run Club Toronto

On Sunday March 8th the Toronto running community came together to celebrate the relaunch of our city’s run club. The Nike+ Run Club to be exact. We are now part of a global movement of runners, athletes and NTC trainers. Now, no matter where you attend run club around the world, you’ll experience the same programming, structure, and level of training.

Joining us on Sunday were special guests: Coach Bennett (Global Head Coach for Nike+ Run Clubs), Rejean Chiasson (Toronto Head Coach), Eva Redpath (Canada’s first and only Nike Master Trainer), and Olympic Hurdler Phylicia George.

We caught most of the registrants for the event off guard by throwing them into a surprise 5km race, complete with t-shirts, bibs and chip times. We shut down Queen’s Park, gathered in corrals, and even had pace groups. I was lucky enough to lead the 5:30/km pace group, and had so much fun doing it.

Once my group had finished the 5km course, everyone lined up in front of the finish line to cheer others in. With cowbells, loud cheers and lots of clapping, you could see the extra boost of energy it gave the runners closing in, and helped them finish strong.

I think the one thing that holds people back from joining a Nike+ Run Club is a fear that’s all in their own head. Before I actually joined the Nike Run Club over 2.5 years ago, I was terrified. I thought I would be the worst runner, no one would run with me, and I’d be left by myself feeling demotivated and not fit. I was completely wrong.

Nike has been the most open, encouraging and incredible community I’ve ever been a part of. As an organization and a brand they truly live by the quote: “If you have a body, you’re an athlete” and will treat you accordingly. From day one, I was treated like an athlete, something that’s never really happened in my life before.

From there a mental shift happened, I started treating myself like an athlete, and believing in myself that I could achieve what ever I wanted to accomplish both physically and mentally. I trained harder, I got stronger, and some pretty amazing things began to happen. I started to inspire and motivate others to do the same (my reason for creating Why I Run).

From a Nike+ Run Guide to Pacer

nike+_run_club_toronto_2This also marked the beginning of a new chapter for me. Back in August 2014, I was given the most amazing opportunity to be a bigger part of the Nike Toronto running community by becoming a Nike+ Run Guide for the Gridlock Runners and Queen West RC. Each week I helped guide others, motivate, inspire and share accomplishments through social media. Along the way, I’ve met some incredible people, many who are now close friends.

With the start of the next era of Nike+ Running here in Toronto, I am able to officially share that I am now a Nike+ Run Club Pacer! This is something I am so incredible proud of and excited about, and can’t wait to see where our elevated training program takes the Toronto run community.

The world will be watching on Sunday June 14th 2015. That’s the date for the Nike Women’s 15km race that will be happening for the first time ever in Toronto. This is a huge opportunity for our city, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the movement.

From elevated training schedules soon to be available at our Nike+ Run Club here in TO, to cross training options through NTC. We’ve got everything you need to make this your most successful race yet. Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner, or someone who’s just thinking about getting into running, this 15km race is for you.

Entrance into the race will be done by a random lottery. Runners can enter the draw starting today, March 9th 2015, up until the end of the month. Claim your spot in the lottery here.

If you have questions about the race itself or the registration process, you can email Nike at runnikewomen@nike.com or call them at 1-866-RUN-NIKE.

Good luck in the lottery draw! I hope to see you at the finish line.
